Mythopoesis is a pen and paper role playing game that
I have been working on for a couple decades now, in spurts and starts.
I have recently spent a great deal of time and study in things medieval and
on databases to improve the look of these webpages.

New changes to the Conjury, Banish and Control system have been decided and shall
be entered onto the webpage over the next couple days. The last couple weeks I've
been entering new spells into the db and found out some handy little programming
tricks that I didn't know I could do. Makes charts and cleans up things a bit so
that they are easier to read. I don't know what I will be working on after that, but
I am constantly looking over things to see where I need to make clarifications and
improvements. The basic game is all here and the BIG CHANGE period of the game making
process should be over. I do intend to change all references to OWp (Operational Willpower)
to MP (Mental Points) which will be time consuming, but will not change any mechanics.
Upon doing a search, I have found that Myth Makers, a name I quickly chose years ago, was picked up
by a game/RPG already. It would appear that I shall have to find a more suitable
name. Although I thought of the name years ago, I never trademarked it or any such
"claiming" of the name. I apologize to those who play/own that game and will be
letting my thoughts seek out another name. Update on the renaming project: we kicked
around a few other names, but much the same bad luck on originality as there are products
out there with many similiar or exact names that I have to keep seeking until I can find
one that I can copyright as my own.
Poking through dictionaries and thesauruses, I tinkered with various ideas such as Legendary Artifice,
which I found linked to WoW, Myth Genesis, and other names and found the word
mythopoesis. I rather like
that the term is defined with the word mythmaking which is exactly what I am aiming
to do with my game. The only drawback to this name, upon further research, is that there is a web site,
Mythopoetic Games, which is doing similar
work on their own RPG. Christopher Johnstone is the owner of that site and all complements to
his work. I fully intend to read through it sometime and correspond with him.
Although the similarity is unfortunate, I do not feel that I am breaking my own rules,
nor copyright, of unoriginal thought.
If you have a desire to try it out, read through the rules that I have so
far, but understand that I am working towards publication and until then,
it is a work in progress and alterations occur without notice. BIG changes
occurred with the Defensive Modifier. Although I like to keep the game dangerous
and lethal, it was just too much so. See the Glossary for the quick reference
to the change in defensive formula.
Another project that I am presently working on is creating pages for each of the Ilmatis
deities detailing their practices, favored powers, spells they would allow and so forth, plus
maps that give some idea of where they are worshipped on Ilmatis. It will be a rather large
project and might not actually appear too soon as I would like to introduce them all
at the same time.
I am building this site to make it a usable community
for those who have access and help improve the game. I had a closed forum
and chat room for Myth Makers and players, however I had problems with
an upgrade and database, so it all went down the tubes. I have restarted
and left it open so friends of mine around the US and world can view the rules
as they evolve.
The Maps of Ilmatis
can be viewed as well. After many years of painful pencil drawing, they have
finally made it to the modern era and are online... WOOHOO! I will have more maps
as time goes on, but for now, the basic maps of Ilmatis, which is only one part of
my world, will do.
